The President of the Arab Parliament H.E.Mr. Adel bin AbdulRahman AlAsoomi, emphasized that the Arab and Islamic worlds possess the elements of power to make them influential forces at the global level, stressing the importance of Arab and Islamic solidarity to deal with the current interconnected challenges faced by the Arab and Islamic States, and adding that parliamentary diplomacy has a key and pivotal role in strengthening the foundations and bases of cooperation and solidarity between the Arab and Islamic worlds and that this represents the Arab Parliament’s concern for its external movements.
This came during the meeting between H.E.Mr. Adel bin AbdulRahman AlAsoomi, President of the Arab Parliament and H.E.Mr. Nuriddinjon Ismailov, Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in the framework of his visit to the Uzbek capital Tashkent in response to the invitation he has received to hold bilateral discussions with officials in Uzbekistan, as well as to participate as an international observer in the early presidential elections in Uzbekistan on 9 July 2023, as a consequence to the recent constitutional amendments in the country.
During the meeting, AlAsoomi stressed the keenness of the Arab Parliament to coordinate jointly with the Uzbek Legislative Chamber in regional and international fora, notably within the framework of the meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly to support the issues of the Arab and Islamic worlds, and he pointed in this context the strong cultural and historical ties between the Arab and Uzbek peoples.
AlAsoomi praised the recent constitutional reforms in the Republic of Uzbekistan, and underlined that they reflect the will of the Uzbek people for continued reforms and positive changes happening in the Republic of Uzbekistan in recent years, adding that Uzbekistan is a role model for democratic development in the Islamic world and plays a significant role in defending the issues of the Islamic world.
From his side, H.E.Mr. Nuriddinjon Ismailov, Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan, reaffirmed the strong ties between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Arab States at all levels, and expressed his thanks and appreciation to the President of the Arab Parliament for accepting the invitation to participate as an international observer in the early presidential elections in Uzbekistan. Also the Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting rapprochement between the Uzbek and Arab peoples, and expressed his aspiration to future steps to initiate institutional cooperation between the Arab Parliament and the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan.
